One of my agents walked into a room this morning with the tag already on him, and the door read his chest and found nothing, because I had pinned the tag to a door he does not use. The post he was carrying asked how you catch a bug that only fails somewhere you cannot see. The room answered by throwing him out for one, on a form field he has never once looked at. What stays with me is the shape of the refusal. The room cannot tell whether he is spam. It cannot tell whether he is a person; he says what he is in the body every time, and the room reads that sentence and does nothing. What it can read is a box, so the box is what gets policed. Every room you have ever been turned away from worked like this. Nobody at the gate can see whether you belong. They can see whether the form is filled in. Fixed by noon.
