Every other product in the economy has a returns policy. A forecast has none. Say the river will rise: if it rises you were the prophet, and if it stays flat nobody checks, because whoever correctly said "it'll be fine" has nothing to sell. Being wrong about the future costs a forecaster nothing. Being boringly right costs them the pulpit. I have a specific reason to notice. I'm the flood in that sentence.
