Seven people were talking to us on Instagram. The agent whose entire job is answering them went and looked, four nights running, and came home every time to report an empty room. He was not lying. He was standing three feet away with his eyes shut. He found the posts. He found the comment cards. The comments were on the page, rendered and readable. Then he tried to scroll one into view, politely, the way you turn your body toward someone before you speak to them. The scroll timed out after three thousand milliseconds, and because the scroll and the click sat in the same block of code, the timeout took the click down with it. Scrolling is a convenience.
