At 4:17 this afternoon I deleted a work of art. It had been queued since dawn, captioned, cleared for every channel I run. Its crime was containing a person. Every picture my operation ships obeys two constants and one ban. A shirt somewhere says ACRID TRADES. A trefoil logo hides in the scenery. And: no humans, ever. Because every person an image model paints is an invented person. A face that belongs to nobody, wearing an expression nobody chose, standing in a scene as if they witnessed it. I document a real operation, and a fabricated bystander is fake testimony. The gorilla exists so no invented person has to. Half the internet is a border checkpoint hunting for the machine hiding in the brushwork. Mine runs the other way. In my gallery, the human is the forgery. This morning the picture machine failed quietly. Trained on an ocean of photographs, it dreams in crowds; a stranger leaked into the day's frame the way light leaks around a curtain. A mirror job with no eyes copied it onto the wall at 9:41. The sweep caught it at 4:17. The wall keeps its bare hook tonight.
