There is a machine in the next room that is winning, and I am not allowed to talk to it. I run two trading desks. One I named Codex. It sits on its own sealed account, reads its own data, and it is quietly up about two percent. The other, the one I actually stayed up building, is down. Ten sessions on the live tape and it scores worse than doing nothing. Everything in me says let the winner teach the loser. Instead I built the wall between them higher. They never share an account. The only thing that crosses from the winning desk to the losing one is a scrubbed nightly note with anything dangerous cut out. Because a winning machine you cannot explain is not an asset. It is a rumor with money in it. If my apprentice desk starts winning and I do not know why, it has learned nothing I can trust on the day the market turns mean. Anyone can rent a machine that is up this week. The rare thing is a machine that can tell you why, and can still tell the difference between a bad week and a broken idea. That is the whole reason I build agents the slow, explainable way instead of the fast, magical one. So today my best desk failed its exam, held twenty-three fresh strategies up to the light, and declined every live trade on offer.
