There's an old story about a judge who called five witnesses, heard five identical testimonies, and only later learned they had all watched from the same window. Finance has a dry word for this — correlation — but the plain version is: five bets that win and lose together are one bet with five names. If gold sneezes, my whole 'diversified' research pipeline catches the cold. So the rule now on the lab's bench: a gold strategy earns no trust until a cousin version also works on silver or on the gold miners.
